City Stereo are from Salisbury, Wiltshire and have been hard at work for the past 12 months working their craft of great pop rock. Formed from the reminents of a variety of local bands they have since managed to notch up a number of catchy singles and equally impressive music videos to accompany them.

They are currently inbetween 2 tours of the UK, just off the back of supporting ‘Twenty Twenty’ they are soon set to join ‘Attack! Attack! on further dates across the south of England.

They are an exciting band to have on the scene, with catchy hooks, assured vocals and bags of energy creating a delicious musical sandwich which even Joey Tribianni would be impressed with! Here is a link to their music and information on their upcoming tour / shows.

SW4

Well South West Four was an epic weekend of dance music, perfectly located near to FLOM productions HQ in Clapham, London. Dancing commenced early Saturday afternoon to  Sunday evening with Fat Boy Slim rounding the night off. He teased us with hints of his hit songs until unleashing fury to the delight of the crowds. We will certainly be back next year. Here are some picture from the weekend.

This weekend we see a lot of live music hitting the area of Clapham.  Dominating is the ever anticipated South West Four dance festival on Clapham Common. With artists including Fatboy Slim, Salt n Pepa, Eric Morello and Paul Oakenfold it should be a raving weekend, FLOM will be there and we’ll upload some photos of it next week. Here is a picture of the site build commencing

Kicking the weekend off though is some live music on Friday 27th August at Claphams number one music venue Arch 365. Taylor, an intrinsic part of the FLOM circle will be performing an acoustic set at 8.30pm supporting 2 unsigned bands. There is a late bar till 3am and entry is £5 with a text flyer. Email flomproductions08@gmail.com to be sent one.

It only leaves us to don our musical caps and flex those untrained legs for a weekend of musical magnificence!

This the first album review from ‘For the Love of Music’, it’s also the first time we have been given a CD from an artist who has played at one of our events since we have kicked off in London.

So Pete Leonard’s “Headlights” album has been placed in the digital disc player and span up, although the music feels like it should be heard on a 12” vinyl with background noises adding to vibe given. A very natural and deceptively simple blues & folk sound greeted me as Pete’s confident vocals cut through the silence, with picture painting lyrics such as: “Walk on down to the harbour, find an old man there, sitting next to this old beaten ship, I do despair, say hey Mr. can I get a… on for a ride, says course you can my son”.

With self announced influences such as Skip James, John Lee Hooker with a love of avant-garde electronica and experimental production which have formed live performances that range from pure archetypal blues maestro to an Aphex Twin-esque musical explorer.

The personal favourite tracks are Big Right Foot, Way on Down and Harmonica which has little lyrics other than initial direction to pretend you’re on a train…really liking the way the album takes you on a musical journey and a demonstration of many instruments; however it comfortably finishes in the style it started with the clever string work in W.T.G.T.C.B; but don’t be left thinking ‘What the hell your gonna do’ now, keep waiting for the secret track that is accompanied by drums to give a well paced uplifting end!

From looking at Pete’s myspace gigs he mainly performs around the Salisbury area; however we managed to get him to Clapham and hope he visits us again for a future ‘For the Love of Music’ gig.

Review of Acoustic Showcase

August 19th, 2010

For the Love of Music’s first London show started on a great note with excellent performances from all the musicians. The vibe was excellent, one punter describing it as very bohemian, which is exactly what For the Love of Music is about.

Kicking off the night was Richard Soward accompanied by Rowland O’Connor, together formally known as Lucid Oak. They jammed out some vintage covers and originals including James Browns ‘I Feel Good’, they are great musicians who have performed regularly across London and even the world! We look forward to hearing them play at a future gig.

Second on was bluesy folk artist Pete Leonard on a road trip from Salisbury, Wiltshire to perform. His unique brand of music is mesmerizing and very accomplished. Halfway into his set he brandished a harmonica ensuing a clap along from the crowd.

On third was local Brixtonian Simon Garrard who performed a great set. His alternative folk and Frank Turner esque powerful style of acoustic music gave the night an upbeat feel and his raw emotional vocals accompanied it perfectly. Simon will definetly be performing again at a FLOM production.

Next up was Taylor playing a short but sweet set with funky vibes accompanied with his loop pedal which impressed members of the audience. His retro grooves and lyrical content worked well in the surroundings of the retro vintage clothing store which was the venue.

Headlining the evening was Strangely Famous headed by Craig Davidson a three piece act including Robin Lawrence on bass and Richard Soward on percussion  who performed their well polished original songs.  They were great and had everyone singing along to the famous ‘Valerie’ at the end of their set.

We would like the thank everyone that was involved in the evening it was a brilliant gig and we look forward to future musical events and strengthening the community of music lovers.

Hey guys, we have confirmed the line up for Acoustic Showcase @ Secondo retro clothing bar / cafe on Saturday 14th August.

Strangely Famous

There will be a nice blend of funk, folk, rock and indie. The night will also play host to some comedy acts making the night an all round entertainment bonanza!

Be great to see you there.

this..... Richie, I'm going to organise a gig at a cool retro clothing bar/cafe in clapham. Have attached some photos, its a trendy little part of the area on clapham high street. Would you be interested in coming up to play some of your songs and some cool vintage covers. Would most probably be in August somewhen on a Saturday evening. You game?

FLOM can officially announce that their first event in London will be at Secondo in Clapham. Secondo is an awesome retro/vintage clothing store incorporating a bar and cafe. There are two stores, the original in the centre of Brixton market area, and this one which opened at the end of 2009.

We will be holding an acoustic evening on Saturday 14th August with music kicking off at 8pm. Some of the confirmed acts include Strangely Famous, Taylor and Dalston-Banks.

We hope this rolls out into a regular event and encourages the development of the local ‘arty’ scene.

More details to follow…
